Just a quick note to update you on why it’s been so quiet around here.
The main effort I’m undertaking at the moment is developing and delivering a new lecture course, Politics of Climate Change. After years of reading into these spaces, it’s incredibly exciting to organize and write out my thoughts on them. But it is also a lot of work, though somehow we’re almost halfway through the semester. While the tunnel remains very dark, light is just beginning to peek in at the end.
I’m editing for Good Authority, the new site from the makers of the Monkey Cage. I’ll also write a column a month over there. My first one is on What China’s Slowdown Means for the World. [Hopefully something else for Heatmap too around the next stats release in mid-October.]
Social media — at least Twitter/X — is dying. I’m still finding links to interesting reading over there but all my posting is on Bluesky now. If you’d like an invite over there, let me know.
But the world keeps turning and very very quickly. I’m particularly thinking about the EV space:
We’re in a world that feels like trajectories that will last are being set, paths are being made that will be with us for generations. Getting these things right matters. I’m not sure if we’re in the fog of enactment or an interregnum, but monsters do seem about. I look forward to be able to write and think with you in the weeks to come (and especially once I’m on the other side of this mountain I’m tunneling through).
