Well, I do have one piece of my own to share with you before I turn it over to a set of great essays I’ve read recently.
Trump’s energy dominance agenda faces three big hurdles
For Good Authority, I wrote about three of the contradictions of Trump’s energy dominance agenda, but there are many many more. I shared Alex Turnbull’s post about internal Trump factional fighting previously but thought that Trump’s invocation of China to justify coal worship was enough to push me to write this up.
And now for others:
Advait Arun has a great piece building off of his earlier essay for Heatmap on the gas turbine “shortage” that dives into Veblen and more than obliquely comments about the discourse-generating-machine-not-to-be-named. [Lots of great reviews of that book, including this testament to the value of always doing more by Joe Wiesenthal.]
Henry Farrell continues an incredible run of sharp thinking about the AI/AGI storm, this time drawing connections to DOGE.
Ben Ansell has written a dark companion to his sunnier piece “the Twilight of the Populists.”
And Dan Davies explicitly dives into Abundance discourse to argue that what we really need is more planning.
Because I have Thea Riofrancos in my head and the Abundance discourse resonating as much as the red-bellied woodpecker who has found some metal on my roof that reverberates like a jackhammer, I think I need to dive into planning more seriously.
I have a couple of short things (and one big thing) in the works, so be on the lookout, but to be honest, I’ll probably share here as well. Be well.
